Definition

The tower is a process equipment of cylindrical welding structure, which is composed of a cylinder, a head(or a cover) and a support. It is a non-standard equipment specially designed and manufactured for certain production process requirements. The tower is an upright equipment used for distillation, purification, absorption, rectification and other chemical unit operations, and is widely used for mass and heat transfer between gas-liquid and liquid-liquid phase. According to he classification of the internal structure of the tower, the tower can be divided into plate towers and packed towers. If the inside of the container only accepts the material without chemical reaction and other physical and chemical processes, there is no facility or only a simple auxiliary structure,also known as the tank.

Working principle

It is an equipment for material transfer between gas phase and liquid phase or between liquid phase and liquid phase. According to the structure is divided into plate tower and packed tower two categories.
Plate tower: A certain number of plates are arranged in the plate tower, and the gas is in contact with the liquid layer on the plate in the form of bubbling or spraying for material transfer.
Packing tower:It is equipped with a certain height of the packing. The liquid flows along the packing from top to bottom, and the gas contacts with the liquid film from bottom to top to carry out material transfer.

The tower is used in distillation, water absorption, extraction and other operations.
